Default Dying Weapons?

How do you dye weapons so that glow either blue, purple, gold etc?
And also can you do this to any type of weapon? I have only seen axe's that glow. I want to dye my bow, so that it will glow like this if it as at all possible.
I read a thread where a guy had a blue axe, then dyed it red then yellow then red again, and it turned gold? Does the orginal color of the weapon that it is found with matter on it's end glowing color?

glowing weapons are only available post-ascension(I believe)...either way Dying them won't make them glow.

and yes the original color of the weapon does change the outcome of the dye...

On this very subject, I've tried to dye several different weapons and there has never been a visible change. Yet i have seen people with common wands/focus items that are obviously dyed. Is it the original color of the weapon that is effecting it from having a visible color change? Or can some weapons like staffs just not be dyed?

original color matters on all items that are dyed. Like with my Rangers Fur Armor. It comes pre dyed blue. So I can either use a dye remover and it will become brown or I can dye over it. Also The difference between the over laying and removing is the shade of the color. Think of it like primering a car...

Please correct me if I'm wrong on this but, I believe that only the grip or hilt can be dyed on most weapons. And that is why you really don't notice the changes very much.

So the glowing weapon, when it drops from a monster it we be a glowing weapon, I don't make it glow by dyeing.?
I think dyeing a glowing weapon will change it's glowing color?

Also, I've dyed my ascalon bow, that was orginally just all plain wood brown. I dyed it red then yellow and now the whole bow has an orange-ish color to the wood(no glow). But this same effect will just continue to change the wood color of the bow, until I get a muddy brown color eventually.?

I don't think you'll ever get a muddy brown color...but yes it will just continue to change the tint of the wood. Exactly like it would in real life. It won't ever make it glow.

The axe you mentioned is the "Chaos Axe" I believe. Its damage is 5-25 (at least that's for mine). It can be a common (white) drop. As for dying weapons, I've tried it. But I don't think dying them any color would make them glow. Some items glow to begin with, while others do not. There may be items out there that can make your item glow as well as enhance its abilities.

Who knows what GW will add in the near future?

I tried to dye my chaos axe ( max damage with some nice mods, mind you ! ) red, and guess what. It turned green, matching very badly indeed with my fetching red chainmail.
How logical is that ?

Green matches very well with red, actually...

From another post, a guy found that a Chaos Axe changes colors to the opposite of the dye that is used on it.

Chaos Axe: The only glowing weapon in GW.

All weapons can be dyed, but dying them will not cause them to glow in the same way a chaos axe does.

A great weapon for mesmers by the way (IW builds ) dye it green and you'll get a lovely purple one
